Privacy-first web app that reads the machine-readable zone of passports entirely in the browser with Tesseract.js — nothing is uploaded.

Passport details are sensitive, and sending passport images to a third-party OCR service is often unacceptable. The goal was to read the machine-readable zone without the image ever leaving the browser.
02 · Approach
A Next.js and TypeScript app that runs Tesseract.js OCR client-side, isolates the MRZ lines and parses them into structured fields. It supports live camera scanning and bulk upload, ships a multi-language interface, and exports results as JSON.
03 · Outcome
Passport data is extracted without ever leaving the user's device.
